COM 3461 - Intercultural/Interracial Communication

Final Semester as President (Graduation Fair Day)

GLM 1.HEIC

The most important global learning class I took is COM 3461 “Intercultural/Interracial Communication”. In Fall 2018, I needed to take a 3-credit course to ensure my scholarship’s renewal. A quick decision made between me and my counselor turned out to be a life and career-changing moment in my life. My professor, Mihaela Plugarasu, taught us how to be global citizens. We learned about different cultural values, ethnocentricity, identity, values and additional topics that were spiritually eye-opening. Never in my life had I taken a class that required me to reflect on how my background impacts my identity, and then compare my findings to people of different ethnicities, races, nationalities and cultures. This class sparked my love for communication and being other-oriented, which motivated me to pursue a degree in communications and focus my career goals on globally-focused institutions and organizations.
